Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept unveiled with a 395bhp 2.0-litre turbo four
Volkswagen has unveiled a Golf R 400 concept at the Beijing Motor Show packing a 395bhp 2.0-litre turbo-four cylinder.
Power is sent to to the 4Motion all-wheel drive via six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, taking it from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 180mph. That’s 1.0 second faster from 0-62mph than the production Golf R!
The Golf R 400 concept weighs 1,420 kg and has a weight-to-power ratio of 3.55 kg per PS.
Even though it is a concept, it is not visually that different from the production spec Golf R, featuring unique 19-inch alloy wheels, Silver Flake exterior, Lemon Yellow accents at body parts and in the interior, yellow brake calipers, 20mm wider body, new front wing, flared wings, new side sills, visual carbon fibre parts, new rear spoiler and a new diffuser with two central exhaust tailpipes.
The interior follows a similar silver and yellow theme with shell seats in Alcantara and carbon leather, along with plenty of Alcantara, Nappa leather and carbon accents.
There is no word about a possible production model, though Volkswagen says the Golf R 400 reflects the sporty potential of the model series. It sure would shake up the hot hatch market if it ever makes into production.
