But there is one car that probably offers even greater extreme driving experience – the single-seat BAC Mono.

Weighing just 540kg with power coming from a 280bhp 2.3-litre 4 cylinder petrol engine by Cosworth linked to a F3-spec 6-speed sequential gearbox by Hewland, the Mono goes from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds while the top speed is 170mph.

The BAC Mono with its carbon-fibre shell, single-passenger steel safety cell and FIA-compliant steel rollover structure is basically a Formula One car for the road.

It costs roughly £80k and with central-seat format it offers amazing handling, balance and visibility.
