Tesla Model X crossover production to start in early 2015
Tesla Model S just arrived in right-hand drive configuration in UK and in roughly a year the company’s first all-electric Crossover will hit the market.
First in left-hand drive and hopefully shortly after in RHD.
In an email to customers who have already reserved the Model X, Tesla confirms they will start building Model X prototypes on a newly expanded and integrated production line in Fremont, CA with first production models rolling off the assembly line in early 2015.
The production model will largely stay true to the concept, featuring falcon wing doors and standard all-wheel drive.
According to Tesla, the falcon wing doors will make getting in and out of the Model X so much easier than would a conventional front-hinged door. You can even do it standing up.
The Model X will be also suitable for large cargo as well, as the second and third rows can be folded down to create a flat platform for storage.
The all-wheel drive, all-electric SUV/Crossover will come with either 60- or 85kWh battery pack just like the Model S, with 0-60mph taking less than 5.0 seconds
