UK new-car sales in 2014 hit 10-year high

UK new-car sales rose 9 percent last year to hit their highest level in 10 years at 2.47 million units, cementing the UK’s place as Europe’s second-largest car market, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said today.

Lexus recalls 9637 cars in the UK, 759,000 globally

Lexus has recalled 759,000 cars globally after discovering a fault with the fuel pipes, including 9637 vehicles registered in the UK.

The company has confirmed in a statement that the problem affects IS, GS and LS models, but has also said that there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to the issue.

UK Business Minister Matthew Hancock announced up to £11 million (US$17.7 million) of funding to help establish an initial network of up to 15 hydrogen refueling stations by the end of 2015. Of the £11 million, £7.5 million (US$12 million) will come from government and £3.5 million (US$5.6 million) from industry.

UK new-car sales up 6%, best September for 10 years

New car registrations reached a 10-year high in September, fuelled by consumer confidence in the UK economy, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has said.

Sales rose to 425,861 last month, the 31st consecutive month of growth and the best September since 2004.
