Now BMW sues Saab over "lost" engines

The legal black hole that is the Saab saga ($3 billion of legal claims and still counting) has sucked in another case.

BMW is claiming that it supplied engines worth £2 million to Saab, which have now gone missing. Of course, with the bankruptcy of Saab, no money was ever paid for them.

GM/Saab – More "dirty tricks" allegations

There appears to be a lengthening queue of people who are claiming General Motors has got plenty to hide when it comes to the bankruptcy of Saab, and the resulting $3 billion lawsuit by Spyker against GM.

In the last couple of days the former head of the component suppliers association, CLEPA, told industry website www.just-auto.com, “I see some papers and emails that are very interesting regarding the action of GM. It is not going away. I suspect we have another scandal coming up.” Now the head of FKG, another suppliers association, has told the same website, “I am sure there has been a lot of dirty or half dirty business behind this last year, what really happened there.”

Former Saab owners sue GM for $3 billion

Spyker, who owned Saab until it went bust last year, is suing General Motors, saying that it effectively sabotaged a sale of the Swedish company to Chinese buyers.

We all know that litigation is the national sport of the United States, but this looks like a long shot to us. The basic argument is that GM would not licence its technology used by Saab to the putative Chinese buyer, so the deal fell through.

Saab rescue – Swedes don’t believe it

The latest attempt to revive Saab has been dismissed by the Swedish former head of the component suppliers association. The attitude of the suppliers matters because they were the ones left with lots of unpaid bills when Saab went bust and would have to deliver parts for any new Saab car. We expressed some scepticism, but that is as nothing compared to the usually diplomatic Swedes.

Saab to be reborn as electric vehicle manufacturer?

A multinational joint venture has bought the assets of bankrupt Saab, and says Saab will become an electric vehicle manufacturer. The new company, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, (NEVS) is a consortium of National Modern Energy Holdings of China (the largest shareholder) plus Japanese and Swedish interests. The idea is to make an electric version of the 9-3 by 2014 in Saab’s Swedish factory. The technology will mostly be Japanese, but the main target market will be China.
