When Daimler decided to post a board member to Beijing for the first time, it did so with a simple mandate: repair long-running operational problems at the German company’s Mercedes-Benz unit in China and close the gap with BMW and Volkswagen’s Audi.
Mercedes-Benz and Audi are closing in on global premium sales leader BMW as the race between the three tightened last month.
Results for the first seven months show that sales of BMW brand vehicles rose by 10 percent to 1.03 million units compared to the same period last year — the first time BMW has passed the million mark this early in the year.

Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz brand had its highest monthly sales to date in July, up 11 percent to 130,003 cars.
Mercedes has released a new promo video, highlighting the F1 technology in the new S500 Plug-in Hybrid.
Titled “The Best,” the video shows company’s fuel efficient powertrains in Formula One cars and also focuses on the new S500 Plug-in Hybrid that combines a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and an electric motor for a combined output 435bhp and 479 lb-ft of torque.
0-62mph takes 5.2 seconds that is very impressive for a big luxury saloon, while the fuel economy is even more impressive as the average fuel economy is 100.8 mpg. The S500 Plug-in Hybrid also has a purely electric range up to 20.5 miles.
In this short clip we can also see Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, who both think they are the best.
