Mercedes Previews B-Class Electric Drive Concept Ahead Of Paris Debut
Next week the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes will be presenting a battery-powered electric variant of the B-Class. This concept vehicle is one of the first models to incorporate the term “Electric Drive” into its model designation, that in the future will be part of all battery-powered electric passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG and smart.
Mercedes announces 4wd A45 AMG
Perhaps in the light of the Range Rover announcement, Mercedes has taken the opportunity to announce the new 4wd A Class, and also remind the world that it invented the 4×4 – back in 1907, apparently.
The Daimler Dernberg (Daimler was the original name of Mercedes) is said to be the world’s first commercially available 4×4 and had a 6.8 litre engine, producing 35 bhp. Mercedes also points out that the formidable Unimog has been in continuous production since 1947. The Unimog is short for Universalmotorgeraet, which translates as “Universal Motor Appliance” – the ultimate Swiss Army Knife on wheels (for those with budgets approaching six figures).
London taxi war hots up
Typical. You wait ages for a new taxi to turn up and then two appear at almost the same time.
Yesterday we reported that Nissan is to enter the London taxi market. Today Mercedes has replied with an announcement about the sales figures for its new-ish Vito taxi. Mercedes claims it now has 40% of the market for London taxis and implies it is going to become the number one choice.
Top Mercedes registration plate to be auctioned – SL 63 AMG
The DVLA is to auction the ideal plate for the Mercedes owner that has everything.
It will go under the hammer at Mercedes Benz World on September 6th, just to ram home the message, but the owner will have to wait a year before using it on the public road, as the 63 plate will not become valid until September 2013.
