Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 105 Years Of Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles


Some automakers are just starting to add all-wheel drive systems to their vehicles, while others have been associated with four wheel drive vehicles for a very long time.

From the press release: This year marks the 105th anniversary of the very first commercially available four wheel drive vehicle – created in 1907 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG). The ‘Dernburg-Wagen’ featured not only four-wheel drive but was also equipped with four-wheel steering to aid manoeuvrability.

Mercedes-Benz announces A-Class lineup and prices

Mercedes has revealed prices and line-up for its all-new A-Class which goes on sale in December. With five model lines, the car starts at £18,495 rising to £24,520 for the AMG Sport version.

The new A-Class, which is drastically different in looks to its predecessor, launches in a competitive sector up against the likes of the BMW 1-Series, Volkwagen Golf and Audi A3.

For the petrol engines, there’s a 1.6-litre with 122hp and 156hp and a 2.0-litre 211hp while diesel offerings include a 1.5-litre 109hp unit and a 2.0-litre 136hp option.

An 84-year-old Mercedes-Benz that was left forgotten in a garage for more than 60 years could fetch as much as £1.6 million at auction in September.

The one-of-a-kind car, which was only recently discovered by the original owner’s grandson, still runs flawlessly and has never been restored. Last driven in the 1950s, the car will be up for auction at Bonhams’ Goodwood Revival sale in West Sussex,  on Sept. 15.
