An old e-mail from a General Motors employee warning of a “serious safety problem” could help trigger another government fine against the automaker.

General Motors on Monday recalled 3.36 million North American cars with ignition switches that can be jarred out of the “run” position, potentially affecting power steering, power brakes and air bags.

General Motors says it needs to change or replace the keys for about 3.4 million cars because they could cause the ignition switch to move out of position if they’re carrying too much weight.
U.S. prosecutors are interviewing present and former General Motors Co employees as part of the criminal probe into the automaker’s ignition-switch problem that has been linked to at least 13 deaths, two sources said.

This time the company is recalling nearly 512,000 Chevrolet Camaro muscle cars from the 2010 to 2014 model years because a driver’s knee can bump the key and knock the switch out of the “run” position, causing an engine stall.
