General Motors said on Tuesday its Cadillac brand will open a headquarters in New York next year in a move to remake the luxury marque’s image and broaden its appeal outside North America.
General Motors engineers reported accidentally turning off ignition switches in a Cadillac SRX with their knees more than eight years ago, and they ordered a similar fix to a similar problem in smaller, cheaper cars linked to 13 deaths, according to documents from parts maker Delphi Automotive.
After a string of failed efforts, Cadillac is again pursuing a toehold in Europe. But this time it’s approaching the world’s most competitive luxury market with more humble ambitions — and a new retail strategy that, if successful, could be transplanted to its home market as well.

Increases in off-lease, retired-rental and repossessed vehicles entering the market are dampening used-vehicles prices, auction company Manheim’s chief economist said, and the trend will continue into 2014.
