Something for Everyone at Barons’ Yuletide Classic sale
December 09, 2013
admin

Barons’ annual Yuletide Classic sale always ends the year on a high, and the entry list for this year’s event in the magnificent Surrey Hall at Sandown Park on 17 December is no different.
It features a really interesting and diverse range of vehicles that should have a wide appeal to classic car buffs of all tastes and budgets. And – a first for Barons – the sale also features two airplanes.
The 1965 Series One Jaguar E-type 4.2 roadster (above) represents a fascinating opportunity to complete a restoration project that was put on ice back in 1982 – since which time the car has covered just 300 miles.
It boasts a Martin Robey shell with new (in 1982) doors, boot lid, interior trim and hood. New front wings and under pan are loosely fitted. The car is emerging from long-term storage ripe for re-commissioning and the completion of the restoration project. It carries an estimate of £35,000-£55,000.

Minis are always popular – and almost small enough to fit under a Christmas tree! The ‘barn find’ 1962 Morris Mini Minor DeLuxe restoration project has just 39,000 miles on the clock and only one recorded previous owner. This little car has been sitting in a barn for the past 20 years (estimate £3,000-£4,000).
Of course, not everybody wants to tackle a restoration, and Mini fans in search of a more pristine example need look no further than Sandown Park, where the 1963 Mini – registration 909 COO – will be waiting for its new owner to snap it up. It has had just three owners in 50 years, with the first (lady) owner keeping it for almost three decades (estimate £6,500-£8,000).

We’re ending the year on a high in a different way with the inclusion of two 1950s’ De Havilland Canada Chipmunk airplanes in the Yuletide Classic sale. The De Havilland Canada Chipmunk is a fully aerobatic two-seat training aircraft, and was the standard, post-War primary trainer for the RAF, Army and Navy. The first example offered in the sale is an ex-manufacturer demonstration machine, while the second is a former RAF instruction plane with just 70 hours on the engine. They carry estimates of £53,000-£58,000 and £43,000-£48,000 respectively.

The 1964 Ford Lotus Cortina has been in the vendor’s ownership for some 30 years, and originally arrived in a number of boxes. Over the decades the owner has had the car restored from the ground up but has used it very little since the project was complete. In fact, it has covered only 24,000 miles in 49 years (estimate: £38,000-£42,000).

With its classic Rosso red paintwork and black leather interior, the 1972 Alfa Romeo 1600 GT Junior is a really lovely car. It has had just two owners from new, was imported to the UK from Switzerland in 1994 and underwent full professional restoration in 2010/11. The car comes with original Blaupunkt radio and door speakers and original tool kit, plus all books and keys complete from new. There is even the original Bill of Sale (estimate: £12,000-£14,000).
The sale features several rare 1930s’ and ‘40s American automobiles.

The bright red 1939 Buick 46S Business Coupé is one of just 15,000 built. This impressive machine features fold-up opera seats in the back and snail stalk rear light mounts (estimate £20,000-£24,000).

And the 1948 Desoto Deluxe S11, its massive front grille dominating the distinctive hood, is a very imposing car in need of a little TLC to make it very impressive (estimate £9,000-£11,000).
Something a little different

Two other unusual lots are the 1975 Citroen AK400 (2CV) van The little Citroen van is very well presented and quite charming. It could make a fantastic promotional vehicle for a small business or a quirky runabout for a classic enthusiast who wants something a little different (estimate: £4,000-£6,000).
Additional Entries of Note:
The sale also features the perfect Christmas gift for any Jaguar fan – the registration number ‘JAG 38L’ (estimate £14,000-£18,000) – a 1978 XJ6L S2 4.2 with just 20,000 miles on the clock (estimate £6,000-£8,000) .
1970 S2 2+3 E-type which has been in the same ownership for 20 years (£18,000 – £20,000).
The 1971 Triumph TR6 has had one owner from new and covered 54,000 miles; most of which were in the first three years of its life. The car has seen little use in recent years, but has always been kept garaged and has been regularly inspected and run (estimate: £13,500-£16,000).
And the magenta 2008 Sebring MXR 5.7 six speed is quite stunning! (£20,000 – £22,000)
Something a little out of the ordinary is the 1972 replica of a 1933 Ford Roadster. This superb replica has won a number of awards and has had just two owners (estimate £12,000-£14,000).
With its whitewall tyres, running boards and curved roofline, the 1933 Chevrolet Master Eagle CA would look very much at home on the set of ‘Bugsy Malone’. This is a very nice, original car (estimate £12,500-£14,000).
The 1930 Ford Model A four-door sedan has distinctive yellow-painted spoked wheels, complementing its green bodywork and is in very good condition throughout (estimate: £11,500-£13,000).
The ‘time warp’ 1981 Vauxhall Chevette ES SLN really does look as if it has just been driven out of a garage in 1981. In lovely condition inside and out it has covered less than 40,000 miles from new. With a guide price of £2,000-£2,500 this would make a wonderful Christmas present for a prospective first-time classic owner!
