Six-millionth Audi with quattro all-wheel drive rolls off the assembly line
Audi introduced quattro all-wheel drivr in 1980 and since then the system has evolved and there been approximately 170 different vehicle versions (inculding body styles, engine and transmissions) equipped with quattro.
Quattro is more popular than ever, with the nearly every second new Audi now equipped with quattro technology.
Yesterday the six-millionth Audi with quattro drive rolled off the production line at the Ingolstadt plant. The jubilee car is an Audi SQ5 in monsoon gray metallic, destined to a family in the United States.
Today Audi offers the biggest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles amongst the premium manufacturers.
“Our colleagues’ expertise in the field of all-wheel drive is impressive; it demonstrates our ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ and thus makes an important contribution to the brand’s image,” says Peter Mosch, Chairman of Audi’s General Works Council. “Without our qualified and flexible team, this milestone would not have been possible in such a short time.”
Last year, Audi produced a total of 710,095 vehicles with quattro drive, meaning 44 percent of all Audi customers chose the all-wheel drive.
The best-selling quattro model was the Q5, followed by the A4.
