Siemens, BAIC to jointly build parts for green vehicles in China

German industrial company Siemens and state-owned Chinese automaker Beijing Automotive Industry Holding will form a joint venture to produce motors and inverters for hybrid and full-electric vehicles.
The partnership, Beijing Siemens Automotive E-Drive System Co., will be based in Beijing, the partners said at the Beijing auto show on Sunday.
The venture will start prototype and small-volume production this year. Mass production is expected to begin in 2015. When fully operational, the partnership will have the capacity to build more than 100,000 motors and inverters a year.
The joint venture will supply components to BAIC and other automakers in China.
Further details about the joint venture have yet to be made available.
BAIC, which runs joint ventures with Hyundai Motor Co. and Daimler, makes gasoline cars. It has also developed a small electric car that is used by taxi firms in Beijing.
