Seat Leon Cupra 280 sets a new Nürburgring record for front-wheel drive cars
The new Seat Leon Cupra 280 was unveiled earlier this year packing a 276bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol, making it SEAT’s most powerful series production car ever.
The Cupra 280 DSG accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, while the top speed is 155mph. Prices start from £28,525 with first deliveries this month.
The hot Seat Leon Cupra 280 was recently on the extreme Nürburgring and managed to set a new lap record for a front-wheel drive car with a time of 7 minutes and 58.4 seconds.
The Leon Cupra 280 was driven by Seat touring car champion Jordi Gene with the car fitted with optional Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres. Jordi managed an average speed of 96.3mph, while hitting 150.4mph in the Tiergarten area.
Previous lap record was 8 minutes and 7.97 seconds, set by Renault Megane RS Trophy in 2011.
Honda is busy working on the next-generation Civic Type R with the aim from the start to brake the new Nürburgring lap record for a front-wheel drive car.
