Apparently life does imitate art. The Citroen C5 launched in the UK with an ad saying how it was just like a German car. Now it is rumoured that the next C5 could be made by Opel in Germany. The tie up between Opel/Vauxhall and PSA Peugeot Citroen means most of their cars will eventually have common platforms. The plan being discussed at present would see production of the Astra leave Russelsheim in Germany (the HQ of Opel), and the space being taken up by the next generation C5 (presumably sharing a platform with the Insignia.

The origin for this story is that, according to just-auto.com, the plant manager of the current C5 factory in Rennes, France, told his local newspaper that the next model would move to an Opel factory. However, there must surely be some Opel models coming the other way.French politicians would go ballistic if net car production reduced in France so that it could increase in Germany. Hence one imagines there must be a plan to make some Opel models in a Peugeot Citroen factory. The favourite would seem to be an MPV, which is a segment where Citroen designs sell very well.
