Arizona state authorities say a Phoenix auto repair shop, Sun Valley Towing, has been closed down after an undercover operation.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne announced Thursday that Sun Valley Towing was ordered by a judge to pay $610,000 in civil penalties and nearly $68,000 in restitution to customers.

The AG’s office says the judgment was based in nearly 60 consumer complaints of deceptive business practices and the state’s sting operation.

They say an auto repair expert shut off an undercover vehicle’s fuel cutoff switch and then called Sun Valley Towing for service.

Authorities say the repair shop towed the car and a mechanic simply re-set the switch and corrected the problem.

But they say the repair shop charged $340 for replacing the fuel pump although that work was never done.
