New Volkswagen Golf is the World car of the Year 2013
At a press conference earlier today at the New York Auto Show, the new seventh generation Volkswagen Golf was declared the 2013 World Car of the Year. That makes double honours, EU and World car of the year!
It looks like Volkswagen is doing something that other automakers don’t know as it is the fourth time since 2009 they have won the title. Last year the title went to Up!, back in 2010 to Polo and in 2009, the sixth generation Golf won the prestigious title.
Other finalists for the World car of the Year title were Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster / Cayman and the combined entry Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86 / GT 86.
The ‘World Car of the Year’ is picked by a jury consisting of 66 motoring journalists from 23 countries.
During the press conference the 2013 World Performance Car award was also announced, which went to the Porsche Boxster and Cayman.
World Green Car award went to all-electric Tesla Model S and finally Jaguar F-Type was nominated as the World Car Design of the year.
