Mystery Bugatti Veyron prototype spied on the Nürburgring
Bugatti Veyron went into production in 2005, and last year the 400th model was sold, leaving just 50 examples left to buy. Currently there are probably 30-40 cars left and with the current rate of roughly 50 cars sold a year, the final Veyron is expected to roll off the assembly line in late 2014 or in early 2015.
In early February, Volkswagen Group chief Martin Winterkorn, told Autocar that instead of a high-performance luxury Galibier saloon will be a second-generation Veyron with even more power.
Details are limited, but it is reportedly already in development and will “redefine the benchmarks” set by the outgoing model, and “all the next Veyron has to worry about is… the current one.”
Around 1500bhp is likely and some sources are also talking about a hybrid engine.
The video is likely the first real life proof, that the next Veyron is in development. The Veyron Grand Sport prototype wears a strange metal frame over the exposed engine. What exactly is going on is hard to say, but whatever they are up to, it is going to be interesting.
