MINI Roadster priced at £18,000

MINI has revealed how much the Roadster will cost when it hits the showrooms shortly. It’ll be £18,020 before you’ve even put any stripes on the bonnet. That puts the two-seat convertible, based on the MINI Coupé, squarely against the Mazda MX-5. A base model one of those, with a 1.8 petrol engine, costs £17,990.
There are four engines to choose from, as per the Coupé: 120-, 181-, and 208bhp versions of a 1.6-litre petrol engine found across the MINI range, and a 141bhp 2.0-litre diesel. They’re badged Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works and Cooper SD respectively.
There’s no room for a One-badged base level car, because the Coupé and Roadster are pitched as sporty alternatives to the MINI hatchback.
A six-speed automatic is available, but a six-speed manual is standard. The most you’ll pay for a Roadster (in OTR terms, before options) is £24,860 for a John Cooper Works. The Cooper S is £20,905 and the SD £21,630.
