McLaren has announced the pricing and specs of its 12C GT Sprint. The purpose built track car, which was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will cost £200,000 before tax and feature a 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine with 625PS.

Built by the racing arm of the McLaren Group and based on the 12C road car, the 12C GT Sprint will inject some much need passion into the McLaren brand with aggressive aerodynamic styling and GT3-inspired bonnet, with radiator exit ducts and front wing louvres.

The 12C’s 75kg carbon fibre chassis has been stripped and replaced with a number of features from the GT3 race car, including roll cage, central cooling radiator and digital dash display. An intuitive brake steer system has also been fitted, along with an active airbrake.

Power comes from the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 powerplant found in the 12C, which has been uprated to 625PS. The rear-wheel drive racer uses a seven speed twin clutch gearbox while stability is improved with a 40mm drop in ride height.

McLaren has also fitted race specification brake discs, centre-locking 19-inch wheels and an on-board air jacking system to aid tyre changes. There’s also an integrated fire extinguisher system, just in case you get yourself into serious trouble.

Sadly the 12C GT Sprint is not road legal, but it does show the direction that future designs will take as the British sports car maker looks to compete with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
