Gumpert Explosion revealed with 414bhp and all-wheel drive in Geneva
German niche automaker Gumpert is back in business with an all-new model called the Explosion.
This new compact two-seater sports car is designed by Martin Frank, featuring a carbon fibre and fiberglass reinforced plastic body, which rides on top of a tubular frame chassis.
The design is quite unique and it is sure to stand out from other sport and supercars.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 414bhp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The engine is most likely based on the 2.0 TFSI from Audi, that surprisingly produces also 414bhp in the Audi TT quattro sport concept.
The engine can be linked to a six-speed manual or a six-speed paddle shift transmission paired to an all-wheel drive system. Thanks to a lightweight package, the Explosion can accelerate from 0-62mph in approximately three seconds. Top speed is around 186mph.
The Explosion is much more than a show car as it is already confirmed for production in late 2014, with prices to start from €105,000 (£87k).
A more powerful S model is also planned with a bigger 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine producing 496bhp and 461 lb-ft of torque.
