Ford previews next generation Ka concept
December 06, 2013
Ian

Ford has revealed the Ka Concept, which gives an inkling into the styling and technology we’re likely to see on the next generation of Ka small hatchback. It’s set to go on sale from 2015.
Ford promises it will be efficient and well equipped, with Ford SYNC mobile connectivity and MyFord dock for mounting and charging phones and sat navs in the cabin.
The Concept Ka has five doors and appears both longer and wider than the outgoing car, and Ford claims that five people can be seated in the car comfortably. Stephen Odell, Ford executive vice president, Europe, says “The Ka Concept builds on Ford’s small car expertise and success to offer the design and technology customers worldwide will be looking for over the coming years.”
The wheelbase is the same at the previous generation Fiesta and the Ford Figo, also built in India alongside the new mini MPV Ecosport.
Underpinnings are likely to be shared with the Figo and Ecosport.
Engines and drivetrains are as yet unconfirmed, though a lower powered version of Ford’s three cylinder 999cc EcoBoost engine seems likely.
Also unconfirmed are whether or not it will be offered with the twin dry clutch Powershift transmission that Ford is using with its 1.0 and 1.6 engines.
Obviously it will sit at a price point below the Fiesta’s, but Ford would not give a percentage of how much less.
