Daimler requests court injunction against French sales ban

Daimler will ask France’s Council of State, the highest administrative court in the country, to lift a ban on sales of certain Mercedes-Benz models.

Daimler today said it will submit a temporary injunction against the ban. “We’re confident that there will be a ruling shortly,” the company said.

France has halted sales of Mercedes cars built since June 12 because of Daimler’s refusal to stop using the air-conditioning refrigerant R134a, banned from new vehicles in the EU since the start of the year because of global warming fears.

The ban affects sales of the Mercedes A class, B class and CLA, which account for most of the brand’s French business and 2 percent of global deliveries.

Daimler says the cars are certified by the German federal transport authority and so are valid for sale through the EU.
