Chrysler reportedly working on a supercharged V10 Viper
The SRT Viper has not been selling very well with strong competition from the new Chevrolet Corvette and now with the recent introduction of the Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat packing 707bhp from a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with 650 lb-ft of torque, the Viper with its 640bhp and 600 lb-ft of torque clearly is not the most powerful car Chrysler has in its line-up.
Sure the Viper is still faster around the track than Charger or Challenger SRT Hellcat, but people love top numbers and here 707bhp is clearly more than 640bhp.
According to Allpar, SRT engineers are looking at new quick ways to put the Viper back on the top with a supercharged 8.4-litre V10 engine that could produce around 800bhp.
That’s a good 160bhp extra compared to the current engine and would leave the Hellcat’s behind on a straight line, while also offering a strong alternative to the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
