Caterham has big plans for the future. Known for the iconic Seven, Caterham recently announced a partnership with Renault to revive the Alpine name and is now launching its first ever motorcycle division at the the International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan.

The Caterham Motorcycle Division has revealed three prototypes which will be unveiled in production guise throughout 2014. Three prototype products include Brutus 750, Classic E-Bike and the Carbon E-Bike inspired by F1 technology.

The Brutus 750 is described as the “SUV of motorcycles” riding on huge off-road tyres. It can be operated as a street bike, off-road bike or even a snowmobile. No picture of it as a snowmobile was released, but the conversion reportedly takes less than four hours. According to Caterham itis also the first motorcycle with an automatic transmission and the first ever two-wheel SUV. A two-wheel SUV? What next?

The Classic E-Bike with retro styling is inspired by the golden age of British motorcycling. The bike has a range of up to 50 miles and it does not require the rider to have a licence in the EU, meaning the top speed is probably electronically limited to around 30mph.

The Carbon E-Bike has a modern styling inspired by F1 technology. Details are limited, but a limited edition version featuring exclusive F1 input and materials is currently being explored. What that means is purely speculative. Probably tons of carbon fibre.

According to Caterham the new company will continue carrying company’s DNA of British heritage, performance and intuitive handling characteristics, adhering also to the brand’s ethos of delivering ‘accessible fun’.

This is the brand’s first step into road bikes and first bikes will enter production as early as Spring 2014, with the Brutus 750 the first to be built, followed by the two electric bikes later in the year.
