Daimler PPC cuts fuel consumption in Setra coach by an average of 9.2%

In a European media test event, the fuel consumption of Daimler’s new TopClass 500 with Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) fell by an average of 9.2%. Daimler has been citing fuel consumption improvements of up to 4% for the anticipatory cruise control technology.

French billionaire Bollore to expand electric car-sharing scheme to London

French billionaire Vincent Bollore has unveiled plans to park 3,000 electric cars on London streets by 2016, as part of a car-sharing scheme that emulates the popular bike-sharing program started in 2010 under Mayor Boris Johnson.

Bollore, CEO of the group bearing his name which set up the Autolib electric car-sharing program in Paris in 2011, said that car-sharing fleets of battery-powered cars could help cut congestion and reduce pollution in the British capital.

Sooner or later, consumers will be able to buy cars that rely on computers — not the owner — to do the driving. Though the technology is still being tested, the day it rolls out into broad public use can now be measured in years, not decades.

Toyota prepares to market fuel cell vehicle in 2015

Toyota continues to lay the foundation for the introduction of its production fuel cell hybrid vehicle in 2015; the company began work on fuel cell technology in 1992. Showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in January in Las Vegas, the FCV Concept, which presages the introduction of the series-production vehicle, made its European debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
