DAB radio now standard on all VW models

All 2013 model year VWs will have DAB radios fitted as standard – good news for any fans of Radio 6 Music.  Some car companies have been a bit slow in changing over to DAB radios, despite the fact that the UK was originally planning to switch off the FM network in 2015. The government is currently refusing to confirm that date, saying a decision about the switchover date will be taken in 2013.
Partly because of the issue of car radios, the proportion of people currently listening via DAB is way below the 50% target set by the government as the point at which switchover could start to happen.

Ford goes Ecoboost crazy

The amazing new 1.0 Ecoboost will take the lion’s share of the increased output, with the engine replacing most versions of the conventional 1.6 litre petrol engine in the Focus. It will also go into the B-Max small MPV later this year and the Fiesta in 2013.

England’s roads not suitable for 80mph limit

The Road Safety Foundation (RSF) has claimed that England’s road network isn’t safe enough for an 80mph limit, due to lack of crash barriers and poor road maintenance. According to a story in The Telegraph, the lack of crash barriers is the main reason that an 80mph is deemed unsafe by the road safety charity.

One in ten young men have driven while stoned

Research released by the IAM has revealed that one in ten young male drivers has, at some point, driven a car while under the influence of cannabis. The shocking statistic comes just after the Government announced it hopes to introduce laws to make drug driving an easier offence to detect and punish. According to the IAM, figures calculated from the latest annual Think! Road Safety Survey show that 750,000 people have driven under the influence of cannabis, while 370,000 have driven while high on class A drugs.
