Tesla recalls some Model S cars due to seat-mount defect

Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc said it is recalling 1,228 of its 2013 Model S cars manufactured between May 10 and June 8 due to a defect in the mounting bracket of the rear seat.

“This reduces our confidence that the left hand seat back will be properly retained in the event of a crash,” Tesla founder and Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a statement on Wednesday posted on the company’s website.

GM expands SUV recall to 480,000 vehicles for fire risk

General Motors Co. is recalling about 231,000 additional SUVs that might be in danger of an electrical short that could cause a fire.

The move is an expansion of a recall from last August to check 249,000 SUVs for a short in a circuit board in the driver’s door that could lead to a fire.

Toyota Judge Delays Final Approval of $1.1 Billion Agreement

Final approval of Toyota’s $1.1 billion settlement of claims that recalls for unintended acceleration hurt the value of U.S. customers’ vehicles will be delayed, a judge said.

The settlement would resolve the economic-loss portion of the Toyota sudden-acceleration litigation. Class, or group, actions were filed on behalf of Toyota owners who contended the company drove down the value of their vehicles by failing to disclose or fix defects.

Chrysler is recalling about 15,000 new Dodge Dart compact cars worldwide because the engines can stall in cold weather.

Study: voice recognition navigation commands hard for drivers to understand

A  new University of Utah study funded by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that, when compared to talking to a live person on a cell phone, using speech recognition technology to command devices while driving resulted in “a relatively high level of cognitive distraction,” according to MyStar.

Based on this study, MyStar, a marketing company that provides branded personal assistance service to auto dealerships, feels that its service has once again been proven to be a more effective alternative to voice-recognition apps.
