The auto industry’s next-generation vehicle platforms may allow manufacturers to produce new products at unprecedented speed, but they also will bring great challenges to manufacturers and suppliers, according to an AlixPartners study.

The so-called megaplatforms will account for nearly 90 percent of the industry’s growth in the next five years, the study released on Tuesday says.

American Government delays requiring rearview cameras in cars

The Obama administration is again delaying regulations on whether new cars and trucks must come equipped with rearview cameras to protect against drivers backing over people in blind spots behind their vehicles, a victory for automakers who say requiring the cameras is too costly.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Thursday in letters to three members of Congress that more research is needed. He set a new deadline of January 2015 for the regulations.

Road to Natural Gas fourth edition released by Clean Energy

Clean Energy Fuels Corp released Vol. IV of Road To Natural Gas, an update of its growing portfolio of customers making the switch to natural gas as a transportation fuel or expanding their current fleets.

This edition includes new agreements recently signed including Clean Energy’s first railroad fuel deal with GE Transportation to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) for its new initiative to test LNG locomotives.
