BMW woos U.S. buyers with 2-series coupe

BMW aiming the 2-series coupe at drivers looking for performance and driving dynamics in a compact, rear-wheel-drive package.
The brand sees the United States as the largest-single market for the car, which replaces the 1-series coupe.
With the M235i, the automaker offers buyers a performance version modified by its M tuning division. The M235i has a 326-hp 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder gasoline engine. There is also a €59,500 M235i Racing variant for motor sport drivers.
Thomas Ebner, the 2-series’ product manager, said BMW expects a third of car’s buyers to be from North America.
The 2-series coupe remains rwd in contrast to the upcoming, high-roof 2-series Active Tourer and the next-generation 1-series compact hatchback, both underpinned by BMW’s new fwd architecture.
BMW likely will unveil a 2-series convertible at the Paris auto show in October.
