Archway students paint vivid underwater mural at Dudbridge underpass

A VIVID underwater seascape now adorns the wall of a canal bridge in Dudbridge, thanks to art pupils from Archway School.
Sixteen former students spent seven months designing and preparing the mural, which they completed in just four days recently.
The impressive artwork, which sits alongside the canal, consists of 20 panels and depicts a number of fantasy sea creatures.
Last year, another group from Archway painted a mural on the towpath side of the bridge, depicting scenes in Stroud’s history.
Jonathan Hill, head of art at Archway, said: “I am full of praise for the students who worked hard in really hot conditions.
“The project was a lesson in project management and working together for the students and we are all delighted with the results.”
Bursting with bright colours, the mural was painted as part of the Cotswold Canals Knowledge programme, which aims to teach young people by using the canal restoration as a resource.
Paul Weller, Stroud District Council’s Volunteer Assistant said: “The students did a great job and have really brightened up a dismal bridge – everyone using the towpath will benefit from it.”
Those involved said the project would not have been possible without the assistance of several local companies, including Bailey Paints, Travis Perkins, Olympic Cars, McDonalds, as well as Cainscross Parish Council
