Following the last month’s unveiling of the A7/S7 Sportback facelift, Audi has also revealed the top of the range RS 7 Sportback.

The standard A7 “ultra” version with 218bhp 3.0-litre V6 linked to a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive delivers an impressive 60.1mpg, which is amazing for a big car like the A7.

On the other end of the spectrum is the updated RS 7 that continues to use the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Output remains at 553bhp, but the engine is now even more fuel efficient delivering up to 29.7mpg. thanks to the Cylinder on Demand (CoD) system, which can shut down half of the cylinders during partial load operation.

Unlike lower end models with CVT gearboxes, the mighty twin-turbo V8 is linked to a an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive, taking the sporty five-door coupe from 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 190mph with the optional dynamics package.

In addition to a new more fuel efficient engine, the updated RS 7 boasts a revised singleframe grille with the black honeycomb, revised front bumper and standard Matrix LED headlights. The tail lights are also revised with a new light graphic.

Interior carries largely over with minor updates to air outlet controls of the vent nozzles, the shift paddles behind the steering wheel and the quattro emblem on the instrument panel.

The standard MMI navigation plus with MMI touch is also new using the latest modular infotainment platform.

Sales are scheduled to start in the autumn with prices expected to start from around £83,515 as with the outgoing model.
