Barons Spring Classic

E-type heads trio of Brits at top of Spring Classic bidders’ list. A fine 1963 Series One Jaguar E-type FHC took top honours at our Spring Classic sale at Sandown Park on April 29th, powering past top estimate to achieve just under £51,000, despite having a non-original engine block.

Another classic English sports car, the 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII, was the next highest seller, again achieving above top estimate, with the buyer paying £38,000 to secure this beautiful machine, which has had two owners from new, both from the same family.

Completing the top-selling trio was yet another English sports car: the immaculate 1952 Jowett Jupiter. One of just 900 built, this very fine, and rare, motor car, owned by Phil Green (Jowett’s head test driver from 1951 to 1953), sold for £24,500
75% of the cars on offer at the busy sale found new owners, and bidding came from around the world, via telephone, on-line and commission bids on a number of lots. Among the sellers watching their cars go to new homes, Brian Constable waved goodbye to the Mini Cooper S MKIII that he bought new in 1970, an enthusiastic bidder paying £10,500 for the privilege of becoming only the second owner in the car’s long life.

Barons is On the hunt for Jaguars…
Barons is now gearing up for our annual Jaguar Heritage auction at Sandown Park on June 24th. Early entries include a ‘barn find’ 1964 Series One E-type FHC. Carrying an estimate of £13,000-£17,000, and requiring full restoration, it offers the perfect opportunity to create the ultimate E-type – and if the £51,000 achieved for the 1963 example in April is anything to go by, it could represent a sound investment.
For further information, or to consign a car to the sale, visit www.barons-auctions.com, email info@barons-auctions.com or call 08454 30 60 60.
