BMW M5 celebrates its 30th anniversary this year
The original BMW M5 debuted in 1985 with power coming from a 3.5-litre six-cylinder unit delivering 282bhp. Very impressive numbers at the time. The M5 was also the most expensive BMW at the time.
This year BMW is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the M5, taking a detailed look back at all previous models, starting with the first-generation M5.
Here is the first video celebrating the anniversary, with the latest fifth-generation model going sideways and doing some donuts.
A lot has changed over the five generations. The first model started with six-cylinder unit packing 28bhp. There have been naturally-aspirated V10s, while the current generation is powered by a 553bhp 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8.
As the celebrations continue expect it to end with a special 30th anniversary model.
