Land Rover unveils Transparent Bonnet virtual imaging concept
Going invisible is something everyone has given some thought. How about an invisible car?
Land Rover is taking first steps, turning the front of the car invisible frominside the cabin.
The new Transparent Bonnet virtual imaging concept creates augmented reality view of the terrain ahead, making the front of the car ‘virtually’ invisible from inside the cabin. For everyone outside the vehicle it looks the same, unless they are viewing the car from air.
This new technology comes very handy on rough terrains, providing full visibility of what is underneath and in front of the car.
All this is possible thanks to cameras located in the vehicle’s grille, feeding data to a Head-Up Display, effectively creating a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain through the bonnet and engine bay.
The Transparent Bonnet concept technology will be showcased in Land Rover’s Discovery Vision Concept car later this month at the New York International Motor Show.
