Barron’s Spring Classic Sandown Park on April 29th

Barons' Spring Classic April 29th, Sandown Park

Barron’s Spring Classic sale at Sandown Park on April 29th features a number of rare and interesting cars. Catalogue closes Friday 18 April

The 1954 Jowett Jupiter is one of just 900 built. This particular car, which is beautifully presented, has strong links to the Jowett company, as it is owned by Phil Green, who was Jowett’s chief test driver from 1951 to 1953. It carries an estimate of £24,000-£27,000.

Right-hand-drive Porsche 911 Carrera 3s are hard to find, and the example entered for Barons’ sale is even more unusual, having a fascinating history. This rolling restoration is said to have been first registered to the William Bong Company – to which all of Elton John’s cars were registered. Estimate: £20,000-£25,000.

Another rarity is the 1998 RHD Maserati Ghibli GT 2.8 Bi Turbo. Maserati only ever built 212 of the GT versions, and the UK would have seen a mere handful of RHD examples. This is one of the last registered. Estimate: £9,750-£10,750.

The sale also includes some particularly fine examples of iconic British sporting classics. These include a superb 1963 Series One E-type FHC £34,000-£42,000), a 1967 Healey 3000 MKIII (£25,000-£35,000), a 1970 Mini Cooper S with just one owner from new (£14,500-£16,000) and a1973 Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico. This has been the subject of a most comprehensive, bare shell, restoration. It is fully equipped for historic rallying, with competition seats, a full six-point roll cage, full harness and a custom centre rally console with pilot switches. It could, however, easily be returned to standard road specification. Estimate: £17,000-£20,000.

Finally, the sale also includes a rare and handsome 1951 AC 2 litre Sports Saloon (£5,000-£7,000), and a 1953 Jaguar XK120 which is ready for restoration (£28,000-£34,000).
