Ferrari California T revealed with a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8
Ferrari has unveiled the new front-engined California T ahead of its public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
The new California T is easily recognisable as California, and comes with same dimensions, but new evolutionary design similar to other new Ferrari models. No dramatic changes, but it looks much better than the outgoing model.
The biggest news is the new 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 engine producing 553bhp and 557 lb-ft of torque. The new engine has zero turbo lag, guaranteeing instantaneous response to commands. The new engine produces 70 extra hp compared to the outgoing model. Torque is also up by 40 per cent, while the fuel economy is improved by 15 per cent.
0-62mph takes 3.6 seconds and the retractable hard top takes just 14 seconds to lower.
Ferrari likes to point out that “the engine produces a powerful, engaging sound during both the intake and exhaust phases, becoming even more potent as engine speed increases. This the first time a result of this kind has ever been achieved with a turbo engine”.
No video footage has been released yet so we are curious to hear the new V8 engine on track.
Other updates include reduced steering wheel activity and improved steering response, F1-Trac traction control system for maximum acceleration out of corners and CCM3 carbon-ceramic braking system.
The updated interior comes with a new infotainment system with a high-resolution 6.5” screen featuring both touch-screen and conventional controls.
