VW brand sales rise 2% in October on China demand

Volkswagen said global sales of its core brand rose 2 percent in October as falling demand in Europe and the United States was offset by strong gains in China.
Deliveries at VW’s namesake brand increased to 511,400 from 501,400 a year earlier, the company said in a statement today.
“Deliveries by the Volkswagen passenger cars brand made satisfactory progress in October despite the ongoing economic uncertainty in some regions,” sales chief Christian Klingler said in the statement.
The October increase follows a rise of 7 percent in September after sales dipped by 1 percent and 0.5 percent in August and July respectively, largely due to Europe’s slumping market.
In the first ten months, brand sales fell 5 percent in Europe to 1.37 million. In Germany, deliveries slipped 7 percent to 464,100, while demand in the U.S. dropped 4 percent to 343,000 in the same period.
In China, the brand’s biggest single market, sales rose 18 percent to 2.02 million.
VW brand’s ten-month global deliveries were up 3 percent to 4.88 million.
