Land Rover celebrates 1,000,000th Discovery at Goodwood
Land Rover is celebrating its one millionth Discovery at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, following the completion of a 50-day 10,000 mile expedition from Birmingham to Beijing.
The 1,000,000th Disco was produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant earlier this year and to mark the milestone undertook a cross-continent adventure.
The epic journey also aimed to raise £1,000,000 for Land Rover’s global humanitarian partner, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
Land Rover fans will be able to join in the fun at the famous Goodwood weekend with passenger drives over a special course demonstrating the brand’s Terrain Response technology which adjusts the vehicle to suit different off-road conditions.
The show stand will echo the Solihull factory, showing how a Discovery 4 is made, complete with overhead lifts and illustrations of how chassis and body are brought together. The structure will even be decorated with the same black-and-yellow hazard markings and safety notices that are all part of the real-world manufacturing environment.
Land Rover owners, at the Festival of Speed will have the added bonus of a private hospitality centre offering complimentary refreshments, with access gained by showing a Land Rover key fob.
Returning to the festival for the seventh consecutive year, Jaguar Land Rover boss Jeremy Hicks says: “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a unique event that gives us a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Discovery 4.
“We are particularly proud of our role in British manufacturing and this is reflected in our new festival stand, which gives a flavour of our Solihull production.”
