Goodwood – It’s almost the new British Motor Show

The magnetic attraction that Goodwood Festival of Speed exerts on the car industry has been used to turn this year’s Festival into effectively the British motor show. An entire new brand will be launched at Goodwood’s Moving Motor Show. Dacia is Renault’s equivalent to VW’s Skoda and there are high hopes for its Duster SUV. Other new models due to make their UK dynamic debut at the MMS, including the Toyota GT86, Jaguar XF SportsBreak, Volvo V40, Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Cruze Estate and Camaro 45th Anniversary edition models.
Moving Motor Show visitors will also get the opportunity to drive these new models up the Festival of Speed hillclimb, although this is strictly at the invitation of the participating manufacturers. Hence a drive in a supermini should not be too difficult to arrange, but don’t expect to be driving up the 1.2 mile hill course in a Ferrari in the wheeltracks of Lewis Hamilton. One rather unexpected new model to be launched at Goodwood is the production version of the Mini Clubvan. This was shown as a whimsical concept at the Geneva Show three months ago, but it is now going into production. Mini says it is the spiritual successor to the Minivan of the 1960s – a favourite of butchers and bakers of the time. However, we reckon it is all the fault of estate agents. Mini has noticed how many cars it has sold to trendy urban agencies over the years and reckons there must be a market for small traders who want to stand out. Flower sellers, form an orderly queue at Goodwood.
