Police vehicle struck by utility pole while pulling out of Dunkin’ Donuts
A utility pole snapped and fell on top of a Windham police vehicle Tuesday night as the officer was pulling out of Dunkin’ Donuts in North Windham.
Sgt. Jason Andrews said he had just started his work shift and was leaving the coffee shop when the pole slammed into the roof of his Ford sport utility vehicle. The wires attached to the pole were not electrified.
Andrews said the pole snapped after a tractor-trailer truck on Route 302 hit overhead wires and pulled two utility poles down. The wires were being used to hold up lane indicator signs.
Andrews was not injured in the accident, which took place around 5:30 p.m.
The driver of the truck was also not injured. Andrews said he was not sure why the truck got tangled up with wires, since dozens of trucks drive through North Windham daily.
