Ford unveils major product offensive
Ford has revealed it’ll be making a hybrid version of the next Mondeo, it’s introducing three new SUVs and the Mustang is crossing the pond.
The announcements were made at a special event in Amsterdam today. Called ‘Go Further’, the product launch was hosted by a number of key Ford personnel including president and CEO Alan Mulally, and the event saw 2,500 dealers and media from around the world attend.
Leading the product charge is the all-new Mondeo. European customers will have the choice of a four-door saloon, a five-door hatch and an estate variant. There will be a range of petrol and diesel engines on offer, including the 1.0-litre Ecoboost unit.
Ford also revealed the Edge will be coming to Europe, too. The ‘premium SUV’ has already seen success in North America but now Ford believes Europe will be a good market for the car as well.
In a move that is sure to delight the white van man, Ford also unveiled the all-new Transit family. The Blue Oval will now sell trades people across the UK a Custom version – in other words the standard Transit – a two-tonne global Transit, a Transit Connect and a Transit Courier – a new compact van based on Ford’s Global B platform.
But the biggest surprise concerned Ford’s iconic muscle car. The company confirmed the Mustang would be available in Europe, but remained tight-lipped on its launch date.
