Cadillac ELR Teased in Official Spy Photo

Here is the first official “spy pic” of the extended range Cadillac ELR, which will make its debut in less than a week at the Detroit Auto Show.

The car was photographed driving through the mountains of Southern California during development testing. The ELR features an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and a four-cylinder engine-generator, that kicks in to boost its range once the battery gets low in power.

Final specs are not known, but the electric motor is expected to be more powerful than the 150bhp unit one found in Chevrolet Volt / Vauxhall Ampera.

Chris Thomason, ELR chief engineer commented: “Cadillac customers are going to enjoy the unique features ELR will bring to the market. We’re going to change the way people think about luxury and electrification.”

The ELR will go into production in late 2013 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, where the Chevrolet Volt, Vauxhall Ampera and Holden Volt are also produced.
