Subaru chops £6,000 off the price of WRX STI

The price of the once-iconic Subaru WRX STI (no longer called Impreza WRX, incidentally) has been reduced from £32,995 to £26,995.

The price cut is a response to the new Ford Focus ST, whose starting price is £21,995. An extra 50 PS (the Subaru has 300 PS and the Ford has 250 PS) and 4 wheel drive is worth something, but not an extra £10,000. Subaru says the WRX STI is now “one of the performance car bargains currently available in the UK.” We would not go that far, but it is certainly fair value now.

With a record sell-out attendance of 185,000, the 2012 Festival of Speed was the biggest ever. The attendance of so many classic cars and top-level racing drivers has come to be expected. If you love anything to do with racing and sports cars, the Festival of Speed is one of the highlights of the year. However, the big surprise is that car manufacturers are now using it as the British Motor Show. By our reckoning there were a dozen new cars or concept cars launched at the show.

£32,000 for Fiat 500 Maserati Edition

The latest limited edition fancy pants version of the Fiat 500 will cost £32,000. The Abarth 695 Maserati Edition goes on sale at the end of this year, with just 499 being produced. The car follows the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari in pilfering the name of a revered Italian supercar brand, slapping it onto the city car and charging a whopping premium.
