Production-ready Volkswagen XL1 Revealed Ahead of Geneva Debut

Volkswagen XL1, the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, with a fuel economy of 313mpg (0.9 litres of diesel per 100 km) and CO2 emissions of 21g/km has been revealed ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut next month.
The XL1 weighs just 795 kg thanks to a body made largely of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic and an ultra-thin glass windscreen. The XL1 has a drag coefficient of just 0.189 and a low centre of gravity.The XL1 is powered by a 47bhp 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27bhp electric motor, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. In purely electric mode the XL1 can travel around 30 miles on a single charge.

0-62mph comes in 12.7 seconds and the top speed is 100 mph.
The XL1 is 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,153 mm tall. Volkswagen’s very own Polo in comparison is 3,970 mm long, 1,682 mm wide and 1,462 mm tall.
The lightweight two-seater will go into production at the company’s Osnabrueck factory in Germany. Pricing details and availability will be announced closer to market launch.
