<
Volkswagen XL1, the most fuel-efficient production car in the world, with a fuel economy of 313mpg (0.9 litres of diesel per 100 km) and CO2 emissions of 21g/km has been revealed ahead of Geneva Motor Show debut next month.
The XL1 weighs just 795 kg thanks to a body made largely of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic and an ultra-thin glass windscreen. The XL1 has a drag coefficient of just 0.189 and a low centre of gravity. The XL1 is powered by a 47bhp 800cc two-cylinder diesel engine and a 27bhp electric motor, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. In purely electric mode the XL1 can travel around 30 miles on a single charge.
