Peugeot remakes epic 1984 205 GTi commercial with the new 208 GTi

In 1984, Peugeot introduced its 205 GTi with a wild, James Bond-esque commercial in which the car was seen being chased across a snowy expanse by a plane dropping explosives.

Now 30 years later the automaker has released a proper sequel with the 208 GTi 30th anniversary edition. Peugeot upgraded the classic 205 GTi commercial as well—beginning with footage from the original and then taking the stunt driving to ludicrous lengths, with help from some digital trickery.

The 208GTi is available from £18,895 and powered by a 197bhp 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre turbocharged engine connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, taking the compact hatch from 0-62mph in 6.8seconds. The special 30th anniversary model packs an extra 7bhp, unique two-tone exterior and 0-62mph time in 6.5 seconds.

The sportier version of the 208 also has a widened track by 10mm at the front and 20mm at the rear, a new more aggressive front bumper, a unique grille, body sills and wing extensions, as well as the GTi badge that was last seen on the 205 GTi.

The spot was produced by agencies BETC and Havas Du?sseldorf, and directed by The Andys through production company WIZZ.

Do not try this at home, or anywhere else for that matter.
