AAA claims demand for auto technicians to grow 17 percent through 2020

The American demand for auto technicians is expected to grow about 17 percent from 2010 to 2020, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reports.
This will add 124,800 jobs for a total of 848,200, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports. Overall, auto technicians earned an average of $35,790, but 10 percent earned more than $59,590, in 2010, the most recent year for which the BLS has data, AAA reports.
AAA has over 8,000 owned or approved repair facilities across the U.S. employing thousands of technicians. AAA offers to connect you with educational or employment opportunities in your local area.
Participating students’ names and addresses are given to Ford Motor Co., Ford and Lincoln dealerships, AAA Clubs, contributing sponsors, and supporting technical schools. AAA advises them of the student’s achievements and are asking they be considered for employment opportunities.
The Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition gives students a chance to improve their employment opportunities.
