California S.C. Will Not Hear Auto Technicians’ Wage Dispute

The California Supreme Court has declined to weigh in on a dispute over whether automotive technicians who are paid on a “piece-rate” basis for fixing cars are separately entitled to minimum wages when waiting for cars to come in for repair or performing other duties.

The justices, at their weekly conference in San Francisco Wednesday, voted 6-1 to deny review in Gonzalez v. Downtown LA Motors, LP (2013)  215 Cal. App. 4th 36.

Motorcraft and AAA groom technicians of tomorrow in National Youth Auto Skills Competition

America’s top young automotive minds were on display as two-student teams representing all 50 states engaged in a race against the clock – and one another – in an effort to earn the title of National Champion at the 64th annual Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Finals. The event, sponsored by Motorcraft, was held at Ford World Headquarters on June 11.

When the dust settled, the duo of Logan Boyle and Cody Collins from Vale High School in Vale, Oreg., claimed the crown of America’s top auto technicians, registering the day’s top score under the guidance of instructor Drew Barnes.

A book designed to help new and young drivers cope with roadside emergencies has been launched by Veloce Publishing. The Essential Driver’s Handbook, by Bruce Grant-Braham, has 95-pages packed with useful and practical advice on: how to cope with accidents, provide first aid and deal with breakdowns.
