Volkswagen ponders extra Golf production for holidays

Volkswagen is looking for volunteers among its work force in Wolfsburg to build its Golf hatchback during next month’s three-week plant holiday to keep up with customer orders.

Additional production shifts could point to a gradually improving outlook for Europe’s mass market carmakers, after export-heavy luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz already plan to produce throughout the summer.

Ford launches young driver training programme

Ford is launching a free training scheme for young drivers in a bid to cut accident rates among motorists aged 17-24.

The scheme will be rolled out across the UK from September and be organised in conjunction with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the Automobile Association (AA).

Marmalade rewards its safest drivers

Car insurance company Marmalade, which specialises in telematics or “black box” based insurance for young drivers, has awarded three of its safest customers with a trip to the Isle of Wight aboard a Yacht.

Marmalade’s telematics system doesn’t impose a curfew, but monitors how drivers behave and awards a score, meaning lower insurance premiums for younger drivers. The three who were rewarded with the trip managed to score more than 99% while using the system.

The Donto P1 is designed by Lucas Lopez and has been revealed in production form at the Buenos Aires Motor Show. The Donto P1 follows a similar formula as the extreme open-top KTM X-Bow and Ariel Atom.
