Drink drive fatalities increase by almost one-fifth


The number of fatal accidents involving drink drivers last year rose by 18 per cent, from 220 in 2010 to 260 in 2011 according to figures published by the Department for Transport.

In the same period, the number of people killed in drink drive accidents increased by 12 per cent, from 250 to 280 (one accident can involve more than one fatality). This means that 15 per cent of all fatalities in road accidents involved drink driving.

All-new "dynamic" Toyota Auris launched


Toyota will launch the second-generation Auris at next month’s Paris Motor Show.

In an unusually candid description of the thinking behind the new model, Toyota said, “New Auris is the latest model to reflect Toyota’s determination to engineer cars that are more appealing and dynamically engaging to drive, while building on its long-established reputation for quality, durability and reliability.”

2011 Fiat 500, one careful owner: £222,000


In possibly the craziest price ever paid for a car at auction, a one-year-old Fiat 500 owned by Jay Leno has been sold for $350,000.The car was auctioned by the TV star to raised money for the Fisher House Foundation, a nonprofit organization, which offers support to the families of wounded American soldiers.

OK, not a car as such, but it is still pretty cool.Honda’s first robotic lawnmower is so smart, it not only cuts the grass by itself, it also takes itself off to the docking station when it needs to recharge – a robotic version of a gardener taking a break for a cuppa.
